Learning her Letters and Other Surprising Videos

A couple weeks back I shared that Whitney shocked us by pointing out letters she recognizes. In the first two videos below Whitney shows off her stuff. She doesn't get them all correct, but not too bad for a kiddo with developmental delays, hearing loss and speech apraxia:

Next, up we try some numbers from one of Whitney's favorite books. She's pretty much gotten 1 through 10 down!

And now the big surprise. Through some testing with flash cards, we've discovered that Whit can even recognize a couple of words!

The moral of the story is never ever underestimate a child with disabilities. They are capable of more than I ever realized and will shock us all with their abilities.

That is so exciting. It's amazing how much we underestimate our kids. And how sweet it is when they show us how dumb we really are.

Wow - Whitney never ceases to amaze us! She will be reading everything in no time. You better get her a cell phone soon so she can text message you! Good luck with your upcoming tests (MRI, etc.) Those are always stressful days - we hope all goes well!
