Aquarium Activity

After the speaker portion of the conference was finished on Saturday, it was time to have a little fun.  Those of us who didn't have early Sunday flights took our kids to the New England Aquarium.  All of them were in awe at all of the fish, sharks, sea turtles, jelly fish and penguins on display.

We walked around and around the four story cylindrical tank in the middle of the building as we looked at the reef sharks, tuna and giant sea turtles.  Whitney kept signing "fish, fish!"  She was so excited and flapped her arms so much I thought she would tire out quickly.  But she didn't.

Whitney was even brave enough to stick her hands in the tide pool touch area.   The water was cold though, so it took quite a bit of encouragement from Melanie before she tried it.  But She got to touch a starfish for the first time.

Her favorite thing by far was watching the penguins.  She would sign "penguin" and point to them.  We watched them waddle around, swim and then the aquarium staff came out to feed them.  Whit was in heaven as the little penguins crowded around to get their afternoon fill of fish.

After we'd seen everything, we stopped by the gift shop on the way out and picked up a stuffed penguin for Whitney.  We handed it to her in the shop to see if she'd like it.  As it turns out, she liked it so much we couldn't even pry it out of her hands for the cashier to scan it.  The poor girl at the register had to reach over the counter with the hand scanner while Whit triumphantly held onto her new stuffed penguin friend.

The entire remainder of our trip Whitney kept signing, "fish."  So we know she had a great time and wanted to tell us all about it.
